The Impressionist revolution

  • To celebrate the 150th anniversary of Impressionism, the Orsay Museum offers us a new reading on the emergence of this famous artistic movement that everyone thinks they know.
  • 1874 is the date when it all began ... 31 artists including Monet, Renoir, Degas, Morisot, Pissarro, Sisley or Cézanne have chosen this year to organize their own exhibition in the photographer Nadar's studio, outside the official Salon.
  • Impressionism was born! And it was through 130 works presented that we discover the tormented context of the time, in the aftermath of a Franco-German war and the Civil War.
  • "Paris 1874. Inventing Impressionism" is a fine retrospective that reveals the radical modernity of the Impressionists when confronted with the works exhibited at the official Salon.
