Toulouse Lautrec exhibition at the Grand Palais in Paris

"Toulouse Lautrec, resolutely modern" at the Grand Palais: a beautiful retrospective

  • With more than 200 works presented, it is the 1st major Toulouse Lautrec retrospective since the 1992 retrospective.
  • This exhibition aims to show that if Toulouse Lautrec is famous for his representations of Parisian nights and its pleasures, he cannot be reduced to the artist of the Belle Époque, Montmartre and the Moulin Rouge.
  • The curators of the exhibition "Toulouse Lautrec, resolutely modern" have sought to demonstrate the extent to which the artist was committed to depicting the reality of Parisian society in the 1880s.
  • Firstly chronological, recalling the beginnings of Toulouse Lautrec in the workshops of Paris and his discovery of Parisian life, the exhibition then highlights different themes: Toulouse Lautrec the portraitist, the poster artist, the caricaturist ...
  • This exhibition allows you to see Toulouse Lautrec's work that you don't see so often in Parisian museums.
  • In our opinion, on the other hand, it doesn't give a good feeling of the Parisian life of the Belle Epoque. Too bad!
