Raphaël Chaumont and Thierry Marx in the exhibition Banquet at the Cité des Sciences

The “Banquet” exhibition

This exhibition tells us about the banquet, its origin, its meaning, its rites according to the country, its social utility but also the codes it imposes. But before sitting down to eat, a banquet must be prepared: you cook, you test, you taste, you dress, you taste… This exhibition is a very fun, interactive but also scientific journey, because cooking is also chemistry (and alchemy)!

3 main themes addressed in the exhibition:

  • Cooking: There are the utensils, the technical gestures, the association of ingredients according to their molecules and the gustatory intensity of these molecules… 12 positions to discover including the pantry, the utensil dance, the cooking and the workshop
  • The appetizer: you taste, you smell, you test… before sitting down to eat. It’s time to get your neurons working and your taste buds working
  • The Banquet : a real visual, sound and sensory spectacle. We won’t tell you more, but it’s just magical!

Fun experiences for young and old:

  • The gesture in the kitchen: peeling a potato with a mandolin. Be careful, your gesture will be analyzed and noted
  • Taste analysis: recognising the scent of a madeleine. But, don’t be fooled by the color
  • Sensory analysis: knowing how to recognize 4 smells
  • Bite into a coriander seed by pinching your nose and without pinching your nose. The sensations are not the same, the effect is surprising!
  • An invitation to a banquet: invited to a huge banquet, the waltz of dishes can begin. Open your eyes, nostrils, and ears
