M.C.Escher exhibition at the Monnaie de Paris

“M.C. Escher” the fun exhibition that invites you to observe

  • The Musée de la Monnaie presents the 1st retrospective in France of the master of optical games and illusion
  • It’s about time! A little-known artist, Maurits Cornelis Escher (1898-1972) has long fascinated mathematicians, if not the art world
  • His work, extraordinarily technical, is playful and fascinating: he transforms a fish into a bird, draws impossible stairs that take you down as you climb them, plays with perspectives and constantly tricks our brain.
  • The beautiful drawings and engravings all play with perspective and give the impression of entering a giant puzzle

An exhibition that will also appeal to children

  • The exhibition is playful in its content, but also thanks to several interactive installations that allow you to play with the works.
  • We are invited to substitute our head for that of the artist in a painting and then to take a picture of ourselves. We enter a room where neither the floor nor the ceiling are square, which makes a child placed on one side appear much taller than the adult next to him…
  • Children will love looking for hidden details, understanding why “it doesn’t work” and being surprised by optical illusions

A very nice exhibition, intriguing, fun and intelligent
