The exhibition “Picasso Blue and Pink” presents works from the years 1900-1906, known as the “Picasso Blue and Pink”
blue and then pink period. This was a pivotal moment in Picasso’s career. In 1900, Picasso
was 19 years old and he began to free himself from academic painting. The Blue Period is characterized by
emaciated characters, of great sadness. “It was with Casagemas in mind that I started
to be painted blue” said Picasso. Casagemas was a close friend of Picasso who shot himself in the head, for a love affair. The blue period is followed by the pink period, which is more peaceful with portraits of acrobats. The Picasso Blue and Pink exhibition presents approximately
300 works: paintings, drawings and also Picasso’s sculpted and engraved production during these
years.
