The pitch
Joséphine awaits you on the steps of the Paris Opera, always cautious, concealing her commitment so as not to arouse suspicion. She will guide you through the high places of the former Nazi command, such as the former Kommandantur and the Ritz, and will explain with deep emotion how daily life was lived under the German occupation, a daily life made of tension, courage and survival.
Walk through Paris under the Nazi Occupation alongside the famous Josephine Baker, singer, dancer, revue leader and mixed-race woman, often perceived as frivolous and harmless.
But behind this image lies a much more complex reality: Josephine Baker was, in reality, a daring spy, an active agent of the resistance.
You will feel the terrible tension of the German Occupation, a time when Paris was both a center of resistance and a place of constant surveillance. At every street corner, danger lurked and every gesture, every word, could be fatal. You will then understand to what extent, under the Occupation, living in Paris was an act of resistance in itself.
With emotion, Josephine Baker will reveal the story of the many women in the Resistance, now too often forgotten, such as Olga Bancic, Lucie Aubrac, Jeanne Bohec, and so many other heroines in the shadows.
