Mummies at the Musée de l’Homme

  • While mummies immediately evoke ancient Egypt, great expeditions, sarcophagi and bandages
  • The “Mummies” exhibition teaches us that the mummification of bodies is practiced at different times and places on the planet
  • Perfect for piquing the curiosity of children, it mixes culture, science, and above all mystery and suspense

A surprising journey to eternity

Far from a cabinet of curiosities, the exhibition presents the history of mankind through funerary techniques and the different civilizations that used these techniques

With a museography that respects human dignity, nine mummified deceased are presented …

From the Chincharros culture in Peru 9000 years ago to the young queen of the Canary Islands, or the child found in 1756 in the heart of the Auvergne countryside… The mummies are still talked about and questioned today!

  • What is the rank of the person?
  • What are the techniques used?
  • The rites associated with these mummies?
  • What do these mummies tell us about men? : a survey on their lifestyle, eating habits and health

✨ As always at the Musée de l’Homme, the “Mummies” exhibition opens up ethical reflections and provides visitors with educational devices to better understand
